If you’ve never had wassail, here’s your chance! Served warm, it’s a mulled cider combination of apple juice, spices, and orange – the perfect beverage to warm you up when it’s cold outside! Lori Olson likes to add a little cranberry twist to her wassail recipe, and if you’d like to be especially traditional (and will be serving it only to adults, of course), you can also add wine, brandy or sherry.
- 1 64oz bottle of cranberry-apple juice
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 1 teaspoon whole allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- orange slices and whole cloves (for garnish)
Combine all ingredients (minus garnishes) into a large pot. Heat to boiling and then reduce to a simmer for 10 minutes. Strain to remove spices, and return to the pot. Add garnishes, and enjoy!
