Healthy Halloween Candy
Oh, lucky us! The one day year when it’s normal and right to have candy scattered all over our houses, the bright colorful wrappers beckoning from overflowing bowls and bags and pillowcases. Gluttony abounds, so let’s just dive in; after all, Halloween usually marks the return to bulky-sweater season, anyway. However, if you’d like to mitigate the potential damage that indulging in all those treats will do to your diet, Real Simple Magazine offers this little quiz, which will help you decide which of your favorites is the best choice.
The Central Florida Future student newspaper did a little research and came up with this:
The Top Four Best Candies:
1. Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkin: It’s a sweet surprise that the No. 1 rated Halloween candy of the country happens to be the best choice for Halloween candy treats. Packed with more than four grams of sugar and only 85 calories, this Halloween staple will be floating around treat bags everywhere.
2. Smarties Rolls: For those who like a more tart candy, Smarties only have 5 grams of sugar and 25 calories per roll — one of the smartest choices for Halloween.
3. Kit-Kat Halloween: These orange-coated treats have the third-least amount of calories on the list with only 70 calories and also only six grams of sugar.
4. Hershey’s: With only 67 calories and just over seven grams of sugar, a plain, fun-sized Hershey’s bar packs the chocolaty taste of Halloween without the fright but barely makes our healthier options list.
That’s right, folks – the classic American favorite, the Hershey’s bar, is one of the better treat choices you can make. Now go dive in, enjoy every bite, but please – brush your teeth thoroughly before bed.
