BLOG: As every parent knows, long car trips with kids can be tough. Kids get hungry, they have to stop for the restroom, and they just simply get BORED. To help you get your family’s Spring Break off to a good start, here are a few tried-and-true car games for kids to play together to make the journey a little more fun and to keep the whinies at bay.
Car Games for Kids
For little children, play counting games: mailboxes, cows, red traffic lights. If a child knows the alphabet, the Alphabet Game can be really fun: pick a letter, and the first person to spot three things with that letter wins. Lastly, there’s the old standby, I Spy – you remember this one: “I spy with my litte eye”…so simple, but it keeps the little ones busy and happy!
Older children may enjoy the Geography Game. Start by thinking of a city, state, or country. California, for example, ends with the letter “A”; the next player must then think of a city, state, or country that begins with “A”. That player may pick “Arkansas”, which would mean the next player would have to come up with a place that begins with “S”. There are also a couple of versions of games with license plates: either collecting as many different states as possible, or (more fun) making up silly sentances from the letter. For example, the plate 562 GAS could be “Go Away Snow!”, or “Goofy Alligator Shimmy!”.

Above all, bear in mind that your family vacation has already started, and time flies when you’re having fun!
